Types of Teeth Whitening
It’s a frustrating fact of life that some of the things we enjoy most—coffee, tea, wine, soda—can leave their unsightly marks on our teeth.
At Focus on Smiles, we offer three teeth-whitening options for refreshing your smile to a brighter state:
• Custom tray whitening
• Professional in-office whitening
• A combination of in-office whitening and custom at-home whitening
Before deciding which tooth-whitening treatment is best for you, Edmonton dentist Dr. Christine Fialka-Eshenko will conduct an examination to ensure there are no dental problems that need to be addressed prior to undergoing teeth whitening. If you are a candidate for teeth-whitening treatment, Dr. Fialka-Eshenko will then clean your teeth so you achieve the best possible teeth-whitening results.
Custom at-home tooth whitening is a popular choice for many patients. With this option, impressions of your teeth are made in our office to enable us to customize a bleaching tray for your treatment. Like store-bought kits, a hydrogen peroxide-based solution is applied to the trays and worn for a specific period of time every day until you are pleased with the results. Unlike over-the-counter teeth-whitening products, the trays included with our take-home treatment are custom-made to fit your specific bite, which eliminates mess and reduces the risk for the whitening solution to contact sensitive areas of your mouth, such as your cheeks and gums.
In-office whitening takes around an hour-and-a-half and uses a highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide solution, which brightens your teeth several shades in a single sitting. Our in-office teeth-whitening procedure does not use a light-activated solution.
Some patients prefer to have an in-office teeth-whitening treatment and maintain their lightened smile with custom at-home trays.
If you live in the Edmonton, Alberta, and are interested in learning more about your teeth-whitening options, please contact Dr. Christine Fialka-Eshenko at Focus on Smiles for a consultation.
